Nabemono, What is that?

Nabemono, a Japanese term meaning “to boil”. It is a traditional Japanese hot pot dish that contains vegetables and meat boiled in broth at separate times, with the vegetables added to the broth last.

In ancient Japan, pottery consisted of the following: clay urns were used for water storage or to store foodstuffs; there were pots in all shapes and sizes for cooking as well as drinking from; jars that sealed at the top (like pots) were classified according to their thickness – thin jars, mainly used to hold liquids (milk, broth), had no holes in the bottom while thicker ones that were wider at the top could also hold solid foods (sashimi); these thick jars with holes in them at the bottom acted like modern-flower pot.

Kiseki’s menu includes unagi nabemono (eel), curry chicken, and yosenabe with veggies.

What is Agemono?

Agemono is a general Japanese term for deep-fried food, particularly meats and vegetables. Also commonly known as tempura karaage

Agemono is created by dipping the chosen ingredients in either flour or breadcrumbs mixed with seasoning, then frying them in oil to cook the outside. The result is usually eaten as a side dish or appetizer.

A few examples of agemono are vegetable tempura, chicken or beef teriyaki (katsu), and shrimp shumai (shrimp dumplings).

How about Teppanyaki and Robatayaki?

Teppanyaki is a Japanese style of food where the ingredients are prepared on a flat iron griddle.

A few examples of Teppanyaki dishes include steak with mushrooms or shrimp and vegetable tempura (vegetable fried rice).

Robatayaki means “cooking by robata.” It is both a type of Japanese grill and the cuisine they cook on it. This is a method of cooking over an open fire using skewers or grilling which are typically rice, seafood, meat (chicken and beef), mushrooms and vegetables.

Robatayaki looks like this: 롤바탄야키 to ro-ba-ta -ya-ki (“ro” meaning hot + “bataniku” being grilled items on skewers) This traditional style grilling technique originates from Japan and was designed to be used with ingredients such as fish or chicken that are cut into smaller pieces for easy eating

An example of Robatayaki dishes is Saba Shioyaki, Shishamo, Salmon Atama Shioyaki,Tsukune Kushiyaki. You can satisfy your appetite at this buffet.

Made a reservation on 21/6/2021 and went down today, the reception told me that the seating only left outdoor then I told him that he can give me a call when the indoor seat is available. He then told me that usually need to wait around 45mins and he have to serve the walk in customers first and then I was like, is there any meaning in making reservation? I might as well go and queue in the first place?Eventually I decided to give up after waiting from 12.30 to 1.30pm and didn't received any calls from them. (PS: It's 5.54pm now and still no call from them)If you are first time customer trying to check review before going down, you may try at your own risk, but I suggest to spend your money somewhere else 🙂

The food quality overall is slightly disappointing, but there are some nice surprises.Mushroom soup for example taste like canned soup, and it's clumpy. But the Pizza is surprisingly good, can try.The hotpot is good in theory, poor in execution. Having soup and ingredients are nice, but the fuel heated pot has flames so high, i burnt myself a few time trying to just get soup.Desserts are fine though, quite a few selections, but ice cream is poor quality. Go for the cake instead.Chanwanmushi is tasteless.

Glad to be back! Good that restaurant is employing more matured workers so they are also supported during this period. Service crew is prompt to requests though order can be slow, could be due to system efficiency. Some food spread can be improved also, grilled salmon head can be a bit charred to enhance taste.
